“We Don’t Talk Anymore” by Cliff Richard (1979)
This week’s featured Great Song of the ’70s is by an Englishman who has been a worldwide superstar for more than 65 years…but for some reason has only had sporadic success here in the US.
He was born Harry Webb, but you might know him by his professional name: Cliff Richard.
Cliff has has sold nearly 300 MILLION records during his lifetime… and has won so many awards, I’m not even going to TRY to list them….but I will mention this: in 1980, Queen Elizabeth awarded him the title of “Officer of the Order of the British Empire” for his services to music and charity. Then, In 1995, he was fully knighted.
So exactly WHAT song am I highlighting this week? 1979’s “We Don’t Talk Anymore:” Cliff’s biggest worldwide hit, topping the charts in 10 countries….and reaching the top 10 in 9 more… including the US, where it climbed to #5 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart, and #7 on The Hot 100.
All things considered–and there are A LOT of things TO consider–there’s no doubt that “We Don’t Talk Anymore” is a Great Song of 1979 by a legendary artist: Sir Cliff Richard!’
