The End of the Innocence” by Don Henley w/Bruce Hornsby (1989)
1989 brought us to the end of a decade…and “The End of the Innocence:” a Great Song that resulted from a Great collaboration between 2 musical heavyweights: Don Henley of the Eagles and Bruce Hornsby (of the Range).
The song was written, produced and recorded by the duo as a pointed look at the political headlines of the day.
The single was a triple chart hit, topping the Mainstream Rock Chart, while climbing to #2 on The Adult Contemporary Chart and #8 on the Hot 100.
“The End of the Innocence” was Grammy nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and won the Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Male.
For the record, Don and Bruce shared the record and song nominations…but Don won the Vocal Award by himself, since Bruce was strictly the keyboard player on the tune.
