“Seven Year Ache” by Rosanne Cash (1981)
You’d think that when singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash (the oldest daughter of Johnny Cash and his first wife, Vivian), decided on a career in music, she’d become a country singer.
Well, she did…BUT…like her dad, she crossed over into many other genres, including folk, rock, blues and Americana.
Her first husband, singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell, was also instrumental in her career decisions–and in fact, produced a number of her early hits—like 1981’s “Seven Year Ache.”
The song was about a man who spends too much time looking for “bar time” hookups, instead of true love.
Of course, that sounds like a perfect song for country radio, and It was! In fact, it was Rosanne’s first of 10 #1 songs on Billboard’s Country Chart.
That said, it was also a hit with non-country fans, reaching #6 on the Adult Contemporary Chart and #22 on The Hot 100!
So…With “Seven Year Ache”, Rosanne Cash was able to follow in the huge footsteps of her legendary father in a BIG way…with a Great Song of 1981!
