Run To You by Bryan Adams !984)
Critics initially thought that1984’s, “Run to You” by Bryan Adams was a song about his mistress…but it turned out that he was singing about his guitar!
It all started when Bryan was noodling around on his guitar one day (as opposed to canoodling around with a girl) and came up with a riff that he really liked.
But then he made the mistake of not taking it seriously. He added a goofy vocal part to the demo and pitched it to Blue Oyster Cult and 38 Special– who both turned it down.
Bryan tinkered with it a bit more before finally deciding to record it for his “Reckless” album. Then, after hearing his band play it for the first time in the studio, he had  an Epiphany: “Run you You” was GOOD! SO Good, they used that first take for the album AND the single!
Billboard’s critic said, “Adams’ raspy attack wrestles pop hooks into submission…which is both funny and true!
Record buyers snapped up copies…sending it to #1 on Billboard’s Rock Chart and #6 on the Hot 100. In Bryan’s home country of Canada, it reached #4.
The video (which you can watch below), was nominated for 5 MTV Video Awards–a record at the time. It didn’t win any…but it’s still pretty impressive .
So basically, once Bryan Adams took “Run you You” seriously, he came up with a Great Song of 1984!
