“Poetry Man,”The jazz/pop first single from Phoebe’s self-titled first album, earned her a Grammy nomination for “Best New Artist of 1975!” That’s after the song went to #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts in both the U.S. and Canada, as well as #5 on Billboard’s Hot 100 & #4 on Canada’s Top 40.
And here’s some impressive fun facts: “Poetry Man” was only the second song Phoebe had ever written, and she was just 22
yeara old when the song was released,
“Poetry Man’s” smooth jazzy saxophone solo came from Zoot Sims, who had quite the jazz pedigree from his work in the
big bands of Artie Shaw, Stan Kenton, and Buddy Rich!
