“(My Girl) Gone Gone Gone” by Chilliwack (1982)
Remember the Canadian group Chilliwack?
I’ll forgive you if you don’t…but you might remember their Great Song of 1982 (My Girl) Gone Gone Gone.”
If you don’t remember the song either…click the link below and give it a listen (especially the last half of the song). It might just become your next earworm!
IIt’s gotta be one of the catchiest tunes ever to come out of the Great White North–combining Beach Boy style harmonies with Pop, Hard Rock and Bubble Gum. (Quite a combination!)
The song was written by group members Brian MacLeod and Bill Henderson, and released as a single from the album “Wanna Be a Star. It shot to #1 in Canada, and here in the US, it reached #16 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart and #22 on The Hot 100.
Bill and Brian were nominated for nominated for two Juno Awards (Canadian Grammys): Composer of the Year, and Single of the Year!
But truth be told, Chilliwack was lucky “(My Girl) Gone Gone” saw the light of day in the first place.
The band was originally under contract with Mushroom Records, but after the death of its owner, confusion and red tape legally prohibited Chilliwack from recording. However…under a pseudonym, they snuck into a studio and recorded anyway, and the demo got them a deal with Millennium Records in New York.
Thanks to that bit of luck, Chilliwack scored a Great Song (and earworm)of 1982 with “(My Girl) Gone Gone Gone).”
