“Middle of the Road” by The Pretenders (1983-84)

Are you ready for some pure, unadulterated rock & Roll?

That’s what one critic called this week’s featured Great Song of the ’80s: 1983’s “Middle of the Road” by Chrissy Hynde and The Pretenders–a song that’s nowhere near the middle of ANY Road.

In fact, aThe song is about getting off your chair, taking a stand, and grabbing the world by the horns (or other body parts).

The lyrics tackle topics like wealth versus poverty, while covering autobiographical details from Chrissy’s life.

Middle of the Road was released as a single in late 1983, and by early ’84, it had climbed to #2 on Billboard’s Rock Chart, where it stayed for four straight weeks.

And here’s a fun fact: The harmonica solo near the end of the song is uncredited, but it was definitely Chrissy, who is ovbviously a darn good harmonica player!

‘Middle of the Road’ by The Pretenders: a hard-rockin’ Great Song from 1983-84! Crank it up!
