I’m Your Man by Wham (1985)
Three things caught my attention while researching this song.
#1: According to George Michael, he wrote the entire first verse and the chorus in less than 5 minutes!
#2: This “Motown-style” song is about emotional and physical frustration within a relationship, which not only foreshadowed the split between George and Andrew Ridgeley, but was released just before they embarked on a final 6-monthl tour–wrapping up at London’s Wembley Stadium as the last song they ever played together–with Elton John on piano…no less!
And…#3: “I’m Your Man was a MONSTER hit, icharting in 20 countries including here in the US, where it reached #3 on The Hot 100, #13 on The Adult Contemporary Chart and #22 on the Dance Singles Chart.
For George Michael, there were a lot more to Great Songs to come.
For Andrew Ridgeley, at least he went out with a Great Song of 1985.
