“How You Gonna See Me Now” by Alice Cooper (1978)

Here’s a song you almost NEVER hear anymore. It’s a soul-wrenching admission of faults and apprehensions by a seemingly unlikely source: Alice Cooper.

As you might suspect, Alice (Vince Furnier) was quite a party animal and functional drunk back in the day, but when his wife, Sheryl Goddard filed for divorce.,.he decided to quit drinking and lead a much more healthy life–physically and spiritually.

Sheryl had actually been a performing member of Alice Cooper’s show from 1975 to 1986…and when Vince began his recorvery, he realized something that scared him: Sheryl had never seen him sober! He was afraid she would not like the “New Alice” and as his doubts and fears about her reaction grew, he decided to write a song about his feelings.

So Vince teamed up with Elton John’s go-to songwriter, Bernie Taupin, longtime bandmate Dick Wagner, and master producer David Foster…and bared his soul with “How You Gonna See Me Now?”

In 1978, when the song was released as a single from the album “From the Inside,” it not only climbed to #12 on Billboard’s Hot 100, it helped his relationship with Sheryl grow stronger. In fact, they reconciled …and remain married to this day.

“How You Gonna See Me Now:” a Great—and extremely personal–song by Alice Cooper—and more importantly, Vince Furnier.
