“Haven’t Got Time for the Pain” by Carly Simon (1974)

Music critics LOVED this song, praising everything from the raw passion in Carly’s voice, to the instrumentation of the music itself.

Rolling Stone Magazine called it Carly’s “best song to date,” and this was AFTER she already had hits like “Anticipation” and “You’re So Vain.”

Of course, it’s all well and good that critics loved the song…but what about her fans and the general record buying public?

Well the charts helped tell THAT story: In 1974, “Haven’t Got Time for th Pain” (from the album “Hotcakes”) reached #2 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart and #14 on the Hot 100.

It was so popular, the Medipren brand of ibuprofen started using the song in their commercials. Obviously, in their opinion, NOBODY had time for the pain! 🙂
