“Frankenstein: bt The Edgar Winter Group” (1973)

In 1973, The Edgar Winter Group created a MONSTER hit named “Frankenstein!”

According to drummer Chuck Ruff, it earned the title because the song was stitched together (like Frankenstein’s monster) from pieces of longer jam sessions. According to Edgar Winter himself, the lumbering, monster-like beat had a lot to do with it as well.

The song was a last minute addition to the album “They Only Come Out at Night,” and was actually the “B” side of the first single: “Hangin’ Around.” Before long, however, radio DJ’s flipped the record…and listeners responded in a BIG way. “Frankenstein” terrorized the charts all over North America, hitting #1 in the U.S. and Canada, as well as #10 in Mexico. Rolling Stone Magazine has since named it one of the Top Rock Instrumentals of All Time!

“Frankenstein:” I’s ALIVE…and a Great Song of 1973!
