Diamond Girl by Seals & Crofts (1973
First of all, is this song about a girl, God, or both?
that’s a good question, and one that Jim Seals & Dash Crofts left up to interpretation.
On the surface, “Diamond Girl” is definitely a love song about a particular woman,
but many music critics and fans felt a deep dive into the lyrics revealed a commitment to God.
It’s definitely food for thought…but unfortunately, we’ll never know for sure, since Jim Seals and
Dash Crofts have both passed away—Dash just a few weeks ago.
But whatever the meaning…the song itself is so light and breezy, it’s just a pleasant way to spend 4 minutes.
“Diamond Girl” climbed to #4 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart and #6 on the Hot 100…making it a
Great Song of 1973 – Mike Cook
