“Daisy Jane” by America (1975)

“Daisy Jane” was the last big hit of the ’70s for America, and the last to feature the original trio of Gerry Beckley, Dewey Bunnell, and Dan Peek. Dan left the group in 1977, and America (as a duo) wouldn’t have another hit until 1982’s (“You Can Do Magic”).

Gerry wrote “Daisy Jane” about flying back to Memphis to catch up with his girl after spending some time apart—although he was quick to point out that it wasn’t autobiographical. He not only didn’t know anyone named Daisy, he’d never been to Memphis!

When “Daisy Jane: was released as a single from the album, “Hearts,” it went to #4 on Billboard’s Easy Listening Chart, and #20 on the Hot 100. In Canada, the matching numbers were #2 and #16, respectively.

And here;s a fun fact for you: The beautiful piano part on the song was played by the man who produced the track: George Martin–the same George Martin who produced dozens of tracks for the Beatles!

“Daisy Jane” by America: beautiful, interesting, and a “Great Song  of 1975.
