“Cheeseburger in Paradise” by Jimmy Buffet (1978)

Once upon a time, Jimmy Buffett was boating in the Caribbean when some rough weather disabled his boat.

He was forced to eat canned food and peanut butter for several days until he limped into port at the lovely island of Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands.

As he docked at the marina, Jimmy spotted a bar at the end of the pier and made a beeline for some real food: a”Cheeseburger in Paradise!”

The song only made it to #32 on the Hot 100, in 1978, but in this case, chart position doesn’t do it justice! “Cheeseburger” is a party song…with some fun facts attached!

#1: Fans (AKA Parrotheads) say that during concerts, Jimmy sang Cheeseburger IS Paradise” at least once in the song!

#2: The Sheet music proves there’s a misheard lyric in the second chorus. When Jimmy sings, “a cheeseburger with MUENSTER’D be nice.” Most people hear “MUSTARD, and it makes sense, but it’s wrong. It’s actually MUENSTER’d as in Muenster cheese! Even some lyric videos get it wrong!
