“All This Love” by Debarge” (1983)
This song was originally intended for Marvin Gaye…but he never recorded it.
Here’s why:
El Debarge (of the family group Debarge, of course), Idolized Marvin, and since they were ,label mates at Motown, El decided to write a song for Marvin to record–which WOULD have been the ultimate thrill… but before he could complete the song, Marvin left Motown, and due to some contractual mumbo-jumbo…there wasn’t much El could do but record “All This Love” with his family.
Hopefully, his disappointment was eased a bit when the song became a Triple Chart crossover hit: #1 on The Adult Contemporary Chart, #5 on the Rhythm & Blues Chart, and #17 on The Hot 100!
And here’s a Fun Fact for you: The song’s guitar solo was played by… Jose Feliciano!
“All This Love” mave have originally been Intended for Marvin Gaye…but it was a Great Song of 1983 nonetheless–thanks to Debarge as a group, and El Debarge in particular.
